An Alternate People’s Policy on Rehabilitation

At long last, the Jharkhand Govt is considering a Rehabilitation Policy for those being displaced by industries and mining companies. It has entrusted this responsibility to the Development Commissioner of the State. The affected people (those already displaced and those facing displacement) have no role in the formulation of the Rehabilitation Package. Basic human sense will testify to the fact that only those who have suffered the pain of displacement with inadequate or no compensation can spell out a humane policy. The IAS officer sitting in his air-conditioned office cannot do this. Therefore this step of the govt is unacceptable and therefore people will reject it. ..more
